Keep it clean…
It’s really helpful to empty and rinse food containers. The recycling systems for plastic struggle to process leftover food, so anything dirty you put in your recycling bin may end up in landfill.
…and what goes in them
And THIS handy list explains all the things you can & can’t put in them.
…including the right bags
Use compostable bags – not plastic bags – to line your food waste bin. Local shops sell them or you can get them free from Islington libraries.
DON’T use black rubbish bags for recycling – they get put straight in landfill.
…and get help with hazards
Islington Council will collect hazardous wastes, including paint, chemicals and asbestos free of charge. Head HERE for more info
